"Delicately Place the Flowers in the Vase" Palm Change
The strong connection between Bagua's Earth and Water Palm Changes develops the amorphous energy and the energy of fluidity and smoothness, respectively. Therefore, it can be said that regular and sustained practice of both bagua palm changes together can lead a practitioner to the “path of least resistance.”

The Double Palm Change is physically demanding and stretches open the core structure of your body (e.g., the kwa, spine and internal organs), whereas the Water Palm Change generates a deep and powerful pulse, fluidly containing the choreography of Double Palm within it.

This course is designed to teach the external form movements of Sixth Palm (Double Palm for beginners) with as much internal content as particpants can take onboard, including, for example:

  • Deep twisting techniques
  • Powerful opening-closing (pulsing) methods
  • Martial applications (for those interested)
  • Exploring amorphous energy—for the Double Palm Change group
  • Exploring the energy of fluidity—for the Water Palm Change group

Advanced Double Palm practitioners will learn techniques for cultivating yin energy through Sixth Palm.

Beginners will focus on choreography and basic internal principles of the Single and Double Palm Changes.

Developing “Lou Shuen Jin”
Continuous Twisting Power in Bagua Zhang

First, Fifth + Sixth Palm Changes

1-2 September 2012 | Tai Chi Schule, Neu-Ulm

Prerequisites:

  • First, Fifth + Sixth Palm Change advanced group—must know the
    Single, Fifth and/or Sixth Palm Changes on arrival.
  • Single Palm Change beginning group—must have a firm grounding in
    Circle Walking. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Elisabeth Wörsing for a lesson.

Lou shuen jin is bagua’s equivalent to tai chi’s “Pulling Silk,” developing power through the continuous, deep and connected twisting of the body’s soft tissues. This principle is at the heart of manifesting the Dragon Body, which gives bagua its distinct flavour, devastating power and fluid motion.

A systematic and progressive methodology for training the Dragon Body is necessary to realise bagua’s potential benefits, which is:

  • Circle Walking;
  • Dragon Arm Exercises;
  • Dragon Body Exercises;
  • Specific Palm Changes (with both health and martial orientations).

Paul will teach a variety of techniques according to the skill level and background of the participants, including:

  • Static postures
  • Moving exercises
  • Synchronised stepping and arm movements
  • Martial applications.

All practitioners will learn the foundational material of Circle Walking and Dragon Arm Exercises.

Intermediate + advanced practitioners will quickly move into the realm of Dragon Body Exercises to fully bring alive and develop lou shuen jin.

Paul will then review and upgrade current bagua practitioners' Fifth + Sixth Palms.

Beginners—the aim of this seminar is to power up and bring alive your bagua practice. You will learn the choreography of the Swimming Dragon Body Single Palm Change, infusing it with lou shuen jin to the best of your ability.

Private Training: Paul is available on the morning of 3 September 2012 for private lessons. Contact us to enquire.
